Status of preparation for the Registration

The Activated Carbon Consortium is actively preparing the Registration.

The consortium has appointed Royal Haskoning as a Consultant for the preparation of the technical dossier and the financial and administrative management.

Currently work is being done to prepare the registration dossier(s). We will either submit one dossier for Activated Carbon, or separate dossiers for Steam Activated Carbon and Chemically Activated Carbon. This depends on the results of the test which are currently being performed.

The main testing of carbon samples is being done by Harlan laboratories in Switzerland. Not all tests in REACH Annexes VII and VIII are being performed. Where possible, waivers will be included in the dossier, and read across between chemically and steam activated carbons is foreseen. This serves to control costs and minimize the number test animals being used.

Besides testing, several other activities necessary for the completion of the dossier(s) are being conducted.
